Christmas in October?

Before you run screaming from the room, I promise I won't post a video of nuns singing the Hallelujah Chorus.  (Not yet anyway).  Beware the future.

For musicians, Christmas begins early.  Directors might be browsing holiday music as early as May.  Jubilate normally begins holiday rehearsals in October for late November/early December concerts.

Here's a sampling of what we're working on currently:

The Lamb - Blake/Tavener
A Babe From Heaven - Eustache du Caurroy
Rise Up Shepherd and Follow and A Merry Christmas - arr. Scott Larrabee
Lullaby - Frederick Keel

Also some Sleeth and Rutter favorites, an arrangement of Silent Night and whatever else our director tosses at us each week.

We have several new people this season and the underlying timber of the Jubilate sound has changed again.  It's a brighter, less mellow sound.  It's very nice and probably due to an infusion of younger people.  Yes, peeps, we have young people who love to sing classical music!

This should be a great season.

Sounds exciting! Always good when young people join. Nothing wrong with a brighter sound but I am always wary of it getting to the shrill side as I have heard some choirs lately. Rather have the mellow.
